Selling...

Buying: This weekend finally getting here.
Selling: Moving everything from the basement to the garage.

The Dow at 10 has to do with the recession not being a depression. Stocks plummeted because we were told this was a repeat, or had the potential to be, a repeat of the 1930s. The stock market over-corrected and tanked. Basically, jobloss, while bad, isn't as bad as everyone thought it would be because of the stimulus. Think of the stimulus as Sully landing the airplane safely on water. We were going down, and it could have been bad, but the stimulus cushioned the landing. Now we are all brushing ourselves off, and it is time to rebuild the economy again. Employers are cutting unnecessary labor, and finding a way to do more with less, which, while bad for some, is ultimately making the companies that survived much much stronger and competitive.

Obama's goal with the stimulus was to stop the slide and soften the shock, so businesses could get their footing again, which is the only way they would ever consider hiring. Obama gave businesses breathing room. Once they caught their breath, saw the government was acting, and saw the government was going to spend whatever it took to fix the problem, businesses were able to calm down and stablize, which will slow firings, and speed up hirings. There will always be churn, which should never be forgotten, but it shouldn't be this high.

At the end of the day, this crisis exposed those living above their means, whether it be companies or individuals. Whether it be credit cards, mortgages, school loans, car loans, or any other interest generating vehicle, people didn't have to take the money. The standards we need to put in place should govern whether companies are allowed to lend it to risky individuals.

Dow above 10 has little to do with the stimulus, i...

Dow above 10 has little to do with the stimulus, in my opinion, but more to do with the ass-kissing of Wall Street execs and banks.....feeding right into the unemployment at >10% because little has been done to help everyday people.

They've stopped the bleeding on Wall Street (for now), which I guess had to be the first step.
