I hate to state the obvious, but it seems to need stating. Every liberal in the Senate voted for the bill. Nearly every liberal in the House will vote for the bill. If anyone is going to kill the bill it's conservatives like Nelson and Lieberman if they don't like the necessary compromises made with the House version.
Nate Silver makes a good point on 538 that even if we wanted to use reconciliation to pass a more progressive bill, we would be better off passing this bill first.
One other thing, if the bill passes with the mandate as currently proposed, we will have much less than the 23 million uninsured shown on that graph. - 1:18 AM

Pass the fucking bill and build from there. I am
so tired of this. The only concern for the Republicans
is to derail Obama. Obama is not all three branches
of government. I think he did not push the public
option because he knew that it would never
pass, especially if he promoted it. - 9:56 AM

I think that Obama knew it couldn't pass, so he wasn't going to open himself up to any more damage than necessary.
