What the hell is the White House doing?

So, to allow healthcare reform to get to this point, the White House had to make a deal with the devil: Big Pharma. The White House agreed to oppose reimportation of drugs from Canada, which got Big Pharma to come out in support of reform, instead of running $150 million in ads against it. Now, that deal is putting a halt to any and all reform because an amendment is being offered on reimportation, and it is going to get 60 votes to pass. The amendment would save the country $100 billion over 10 years, which means it would cost Big Pharma $100 billion over 10 years. This is an overwhelmingly good thing for the American people, but the White House is campaigning against it to save reform as a whole. Catch-22, as we wouldn't have got to this point had the White House not made the deal, but now to preserve their end of the bargain, the White House is fighting against the principles they laid forth in arguing the case for reform.
