Let's Play Doctor: 60 votes on healthcare...Christmas Eve Vote

Reid gets 60 on a final bill. The non-profit multi-state insurance plans negotiated by the federal government seem pretty damn promising. Once the bill passes, it will go to conference, and be merged with the much more progressive House bill. Or this, which is good for anyone with a costly disease like cancer (via Andrew Sullivan):

The very first provision of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Manager's Amendment would explicitly prohibit insurers from imposing either annual or lifetime limits.

A group health plan and a health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage may not establish—(A) lifetime limits on the dollar value of benefits for any participant or beneficiary; or (B) except as provided in paragraph (2), annual limits on the dollar value of benefits for any participant or beneficiary.

Today was a pretty big day for the nation, our future way of life, and the nation's businesses which are dying under the costs caused by the monopolies in the insurance industry.

Hopefully it'll go through and Nancy Pelosi will just pass the Senate bill with no changes so it doesn't have to go back to the Senate. Have you ever seen a breakdown of what percentage of the total US public the 40 Republican senators represent? That would be interesting to hear about, much more interesting than ad nauseum discussions of the White House party crashers. California having 37 million and only 2 (Democratic) senators vs Wyoming with 500,000 and 2 (Republican) senators. The founding fathers could never have imagined that disparity.

Christmas eve is still a long way away.....and enough time for Joe Lieberman to change his mind.

Umm, isn't that why there are TWO HOUSES IN CONGRESS?

Someone needs a civics lesson on the Connecticut Compromise.
