MoveOn.org is trying to kill the healthcare legislation President Obama has spent all year selling. It is the 20% on the left and the 20% on the right that are ruining this country.

They are a liberal group, and Obama has shit on them.

As a group that promotes progressive/liberal ideas and legislation, why wouldn't they try to kill this bill? It's not a liberal bill.

A right-wing group would do the same thing in a similar situation. And I do believe I recall them doing exactly that during the last few years of Bush's tenure.; 5:21 PM

Anonymous said...: I agree with Brian that I want this bill to pass. I don't care about abortion being in the bill. Doesn't Planned Parenthood run a lot of clinics where first term abortions are very inexpensive? Why not establish the bill, know what the situation is, and then establish a right to abortion via donations from all of us who believe that criminalizing abortion would be very dangerous for women? The internet is a great organizing tool.

One thing though that might be good about the pressure from MoveOn, etc. is that people like Lieberman and Nelson might let the bill get past cloture just to spite "the left."; 9:53 PM
Brian Francis said...: The entire point of my argument is that Democrats are doing the bidding of Republicans. If they would just get something passed, they can improve the piece parts later. I am pissed because Moveon and these other liberal groups are trying to bring down reform because of less important provisions. I am arguing about tactics, not the importance of the provisions.

They are neutering Obama by working with the Republicans. Seriously, how much criticism from Republicans have you heard this month? None. It is all from Democrats, which is why Obama's numbers, and the bill's numbers have been decimated.; 6:52 AM

Anonymous said...: Megan, I'm not saying the republicans aren't criticizing the effort, of course they are. My problem is that their delay and obstructionism should be the story. But it isn't. The democrats have given the media a new toy to play with, allowing the republican tactics to go unnoticed. It is a new story for the media to talk about the democrats criticizing the health bill. It is an unnecessary distraction.

Do you see headlines saying "Dems still need 5 liberal votes to get to 60"?? NO.

As Bill Press said last night, I'd rather be seen as a Democrat fighting with one another how to reform healthcare, with even some of those Dems fighting for UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, then a Republican that is doing nothing but fighting to prevent reform.; 1:36 PM

By denigrating the bill instead of them, liberal groups killed the public option in the Senate bill. Liberals did NOT kill the public option in the Senate. Lieberman, nelson, Landrieu, Lincoln, et. al. did. And you are severely hard-pressed to make a case of how they will kill it in the future. Nelson has already said this morning that if it's in the bill that comes out of conference, he won't vote for it.; 7:31 PM
