[EARTHQUAKE] - NYTs - A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Italy today about 100 miles east of Rome, and over 50 people have died, with thousands left homeless.
[TOXIC ASSETS] - Financial Times - Under the government plan, bailed out banks are going to buy the toxic assets of other bailed out banks, and they'll probably make huge profits. But there is something disturbing when banks we've already given money because of 'toxic' debt use that money to buy other 'toxic' debt.

[SUICIDE PAKISTAN] - NYTs - 3 suicide bombs kill 26 in Pakistan yesterday. The Pakistani Taliban(sunni) are ramping up bombings of Shiite mosques.
[PAKISTANI ALLY] - NYTs - Pakistan is welcoming our money, but they aren't prepared to give up their war on India and fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda which are actively killing their civilians. Pakistan is freaked out about India, and seems to have a real complex about them, rightly or wrongly given the history of war. How many suicide bombs does it take for a Muslim nation to admit it has a problem? Many in the military tasked with fighting the militants are sympathetic to them, and would prefer accomodating them.
