Morning Whiskey - 10/06/2008

NOTE: Don't get cocky. Barack Hussein Obama is still a black guy with a terrorist's name. It may appear that he is 8 points and 3 steps ahead of McCain at this very moment, but with 30 days left, anything can happen, and all of Obama's gains over the last 3 weeks can be reversed in an instant. Read this devastating Rolling Stone article....John McCain will, and is going to, do anything to win. Follow Obama's lead. What he is talking about is what we should be talking about.

1.
The Asian markets crashed in overnight trading by 4-5%. The analysis is that the bailout wasn't enough and the greater globe will have financial problems.
2. MUST WATCH: High noon today, Obama launches a documentary on McCain's direct involvement with the Keating 5 savings and loan scandal which cost people over $100 Billion. Basically, McCain and his wife traveled on this businessman's dime then intervened on his behalf to stop it when people tried to regulate savings and loan operations. It is the exact same thing that led to the Wall Street meltdown we are currently experiencing. The McCain campaign continues to insist, falsely, as Hillary did back in April, that Obama has a relationship with Bill Ayers...someone who lives in Obama's neighborhood and teaches where Obama taught. Bill Ayers is a 60s radical. When he committed his acts, Obama was 8. It is nonsense for the McCain campaign to be doing this. It is like Hillary saying Obama has been planning to be President since he was in Kindergarten.
3. Even though RCP is a joke because they cherry pick polls, I just noticed something: 3o days out Barack Obama leads in every battleground and nationally.
4. Registration gains favor the Democrats. Today is the last day for a dozen or more states.
5. Sarah Palin sued over emails.....She really sounds like Bush now.
6. Bill Kristol, former McCain advisor(which is also why it is funny when the McCain campaign attacks the NYTs), gets his dick on hard for Palin and says play the Jeremiah Wright card, which through the written word seemed to make him even more excited.
7. MUST READ: Paul Krugman explains what I couldn't over the weekend about McCain's healthcare plan.....if you have a pre-existing condition you will lose your healthcare. Republican or Democrat, this should scare everyone:

Mr. McCain, on the other hand, wants to blow up the current system, by eliminating the tax break for employer-provided insurance. And he doesn’t offer a workable alternative.

Without the tax break, many employers would drop their current health plans. Several recent nonpartisan studies estimate that under the McCain plan around 20 million Americans currently covered by their employers would lose their health insurance.

As compensation, the McCain plan would give people a tax credit — $2,500 for an individual, $5,000 for a family — that could be used to buy health insurance in the individual market. At the same time, Mr. McCain would deregulate insurance, leaving insurance companies free to deny coverage to those with health problems — and his proposal for a “high-risk pool” for hard cases would provide little help.

8. "How did we get into this mess?"
9. McCain is hiding his gambling winnings on his tax returns
10. Beats you need......
11. MUST WATCH: Barack Obama speaking in rural North Carolina yesterday...4 minutes...about how McCain is trying to distract instead of talking about the economy...Obama will further paint McCain as out of touch and McCain is telegraphing all of his punches:

"Senator McCain is gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather tear our campaign down than lift this country up. That is what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time."

I totally agree about getting cocky---did you see Howard Wolfson proclaimed that "it's over"?? It looks good right now, but you are 100% correct that everything can change in a week or even a day.

I look forward to Obama bringing up Keating 5. They have probably scooped up Palin to go teach her what it is. This may make McCain blow his lid, which would be good to show people how psycho he is. I still really can't believe Camp Obama is going this balls-to-the-wall. I guess I should have believed him when he said he doesn't do cowering, a.k.a. I don't fuck around.

The markets could be very bad today. I'm anxious to see how they hold up after such a horrible start in Asia and Europe.

Did you read Hot, Crowded & Flat yet?

If so, is it another rehash of Lexus/Olive Tree & The World is Flat?

I'm not going to get cocky, but at this point, it's time to just pull off the gloves and start pounding McCain with the brass knuckles. Period.

1. Where are McCain's gambling losses on the tax returns?
2. Where are Palin's per diems?
3. McCain's now saying he had nothing to do with the Keating Five.

#7 I have diabetes :aka a prexisting condition. There are something like 12 million Americans with diabetes.
Question: Is John McIdon'tcare going to prevent 12 million or so Americans from getting health care?

Kelley, I think it would work this way.....you have diabetes. you get new insurance post McCain's election. the new insurance company says you have a preexisting condition and have to pay for your own care.

Kelley,

I'm pretty sure McCain would only prevent you from getting insurance, not overall health care. Although, you'd have to pay for it all by yourself.

It's not a bad plan to bring down health insurance costs, though. If you're only insuring people that don't have pre-existing conditions then it should cost a lot less to insure everybody (who qualifies).

Basically, McCain wants to only insure people who don't need insurance.

80% of all healthcare costs come from 20% of patients. McCain is basically saying....do you know how low costs could get if we cut out the 20%? Well, if you have a preexisting condition, you are 1 of the 20%.

Guess I'd better stay in my current job (and with my current health plan) until I retire. That's ok. I teach and I love my job, my students, and my school.

I can live with that. Unless they cut special education.
