My thoughts

  1. Not a good speech.
  2. Not a good voice.
  3. I can't imagine listening to her in an attack roll until November.
  4. McCain is going to die in office.
  5. Why would McCain want to goad Hillary into helping Obama? I don't think Hillary likes Obama, and however you feel about her wanting Obama to win I can tell you this: Hillary Clinton wants to be the first female president. She is not going to let some chick from Alaska beat her to the office. Ditto for Bill.
  6. Palin needs some confidence, fast. She looked way nervous while speaking. I can't imagine her debating Biden at this point. I wonder if they'll even have a VP debate.
  7. Ha, the number of people at the rally was twice the size of her town where she was mayor.
  8. Jesus Christ, unless and until McCain wins, this is not a history making move. The media is stupid
  9. Update: It's easy to criticize the current administration, but when your press secretary releases a statement wouldn't you want a better message than saying the president told her that she'd make a great vice-presidential candidate ? I would think the right message is to tell her that she would make a great vice-president.

McCain looked very uncomfortable next to her. When her shrill speech was over, he couldn't wait to get away from her. Certainly no chemistry between them.

It does not make sense that a mother of 4 (now 5), coming from humble roots, with a husband who is not wealthy, would have been propelled politically as this Palin woman has been. My town has 13,000 people and the mayor of Flemington would not be considered for the local congressional seat, much less be able to get on the ballot for the gubernatorial primary and get any money to run against the incumbent governor. She didn't win the primary with no money behind, just her good looks and being a "hockey mom."

He's mocked little Chelsea and called his wife a Kunt. I'd be nervous around all females after that.......

To be fair that city of 9,000 was probably the 3rd biggest city in the state.

Here's the thing that McCain was effective at, though:

No one is talking about the earth-moving speech from last night anymore. Everyone is talking about the crack that McCain might be smoking, or how brilliant this pick might be.

Sadly, his timing couldn't have been better. He gets Obama--and the whole DNConvention--out of the news before everyone goes away for a long weekend.

you know the line in ghost busters when the mayor says "Will somebody please call the ghost busters" Well, to the Obama campaign, WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE PUT HILLARY CLINTON ON A AD DEFENDING OBAMA!

This might be the best reaction to this pick. From the CNN political ticker comments:

"'With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished. I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. And again, with all due respect to Richmond, Virginia, it's smaller than Chula Vista, California; Aurora, Colorado; Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona; north Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada. It's not a big town.'
–Karl Rove, August 10, 'Face the Nation'

Tim Kaine's service as governor: three years
Sarah Palin's service as governor: twenty months

Population, Richmond, VA: 200,123
Population, Wasilla, AK: 9,780"

That needs to be in an ad, too.

Joe Biden's speech - Major attack on McCain.

Sarah Palin's speech - I fish!

Like Quayle and Ferraro, this is going to prove a horrible choice. When you thrust someone into the 24 hour news cycle with no warning, they will make mistakes. Major mistakes.

I can't see this being good for McCain in the long run.

If you're a HIllary supporter - outside of this woman being a woman,

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE IN COMMON WITH HER PHILSOPHICALLY?

it would be like McCain choosing Alan Keyes and thinking Black folk would vote for him.

HA!

Alan Keyes isn't Black...

Oh, wait.
