Bill Clinton.....what everyone is misreading.....

The drive by media, and Bill Clinton's friends/advisors, are pushing one singular narrative: That Bill Clinton is steamed he was called a racist in the primary, he blames Obama for it, and that is why he is not eager to help Obama. But I am not buying it for a second.

Bill Clinton is a seasoned politician. He can take a punch. He understands the game. What he doesn't like is not being a part of it. What the long primary showed was that he is no longer the focal point of that family, his wife is, and I think it drives him nuts, and will lead him to continue to try and undermine Obama and Hillary.

Obama isn't trying to paper over Bill Clinton, but he is also not actively courting him. Obama is dealing strictly with Hillary, and that, I believe, is why Bill is so upset. By Obama focusing all his attention on Hillary, Obama is further alienating Bill Clinton from the political game he loves. Yes, Clinton is a former president, but his wife has the juice now.

So for the next 24 hours, the press is going to analyze over and over the Bill impact and why there is a rift. The answer is that Bill Clinton is still a politician with considerable skill and desire to play the game, but no one is asking him too and he knows no one will. So he is doing the only thing he knows how to do: stir up trouble by acting disinterested and giving tepid endorsements at best to Obama. He is being a child. He is the kid in the freezer isle at the grocery store throwing a tantrum. He wants everyone to pay attention to him again. He wants to be the center of attention, and what is killing him the most though, is that now it is and forever will be, Hillary.

Bill Clinton is jealous of his wife more than he is jealous of Obama. Her losing the race for presidency was a deathblow to Bill Clinton's dreams. Had she went on to be president, he would still be considered the puppet master and he would be a world player again. But now, she has battled through a tough primary and lost, and at the very least has assumed the role of top political animal in the Clinton household. Now she will try and go on to be a great senator, while Bill is just a former president doing charity work. He no longer has any way to play with the levers of power, and it is eating him alive.

He is a small, petty, jealous, and selfish man. He can't stand that his wife is the top power broker in the household now. No matter what he says tomorrow night...I fully expect him to continue to his childish antics through November, and if Obama wins, beyond.

What worries me most is that him and Carville have something cooking for tomorrow's speech...just some way to stick it to Obama.

this was a response to me posting this over at JJP:

Town

I have often wondered if Bill wasn't trying to undermine Hillary during the primary process. He was making things worse for Hillary and I have to wonder if it wasn't done on purpose. The things he did and said (and still saying and doing) is bizarre, to say the least. I believe the #1 reason why the majority of people didn't want Hillary to be VP was not Hillary herself, but it was Bill. That was the main reason I didn't want her to be Obama's VP.

When you hear of the problems in her campaign, somehow they all come back to Bill.

And for all of her Grrl Power rhetoric, her campaign was staffed by middle aged wonky white guys. Sure Maggie Williams and Patti Solis Doyle were up there, but the real movers and shakers and decision makers were white guys. For all of this screaming about 18 million cracks and feminism, it seemed as though Hillary was taking a back seat to the guys.

And everyone knows it, but instead of pointing the finger at Bill or Mark Penn or Howard Ickes or Lanny Davis or the media itself, the PUMAs and people like this Ann Mills Price woman and Geraldine Ferraro point the finger at Obama and say it's Obama's fault.

I think it's telling that she didn't describe herself as a proud wife tonight. And Bill knows he's done her wrong and dirty so many times so he's not going to complain about it.

Hillary has a power today that she didn't have in January. She had the Clinton Power in January but it has slowly emerged into power in her own right and I think she realizes that now. I think that Begala, Wolfson, Carville etc. know this flip flop has taken place and that's why they are riding and dying so hard for Hillary -- she got the juice in their household now, not Bill.

It's also why I think another Bill extramarital affair will explode on the front pages within the next couple of years.

I agree 100%. Especially about the last part. I think Bill will inject himself however he can...even if it means embarrassing himself.

Its a cliche but I see it over and over again regarding the Hillary for President notion/campaign: No Plan B. Bill Clinton never considered what it would mean if his wife didn't get the Democratic nomination. Ten minutes of reflection 2 years ago about what it would mean to him, personally, if she wasn't the nominee and he would have discouraged her from running. He'd have told all his friends to discourage her. Theres a reason former presidents normally stay out of the presidential primaries: they don't want to lose prestige. Bill Clinton's arrogance was completely blind.
